Today’s 1/2 Marathon Training Update
When I started my training 3 weeks ago: I was able to jog 1.6 miles as a walk/jog combo in approximately 25 minutes. I’m jogging in the desert with changes in elevation so a little different than jogging on a flat road. (Here’s the story behind the journey).
# of Days this week: 3
# of Miles this week: 5
Average time: 23 min
Total # of Miles: 17.8
Challenges: I’ve been having a lot of pain while jogging in my calves and ankles. I feel it’s most likely just due to the fact that these muscles aren’t used to being worked in this way. Motivation is still going ok. I have my first longer run today so I’m excited to see how that goes.
I haven’t eaten well all week. That will be an important step to put back into my routine this week.
Success:
- I’m still here.
- I discovered I can run a full 1/2 mile now on a flat surface (no rocky hills). That’s a big improvement.
- I’m regularly mixing in elliptical and weight training on my non-running days.
Plan for this week:
- Today is first 3 mile run.
- Increase average run from 1.6 miles to 2 miles.
- Keep time under 30 min for 2 mile jog.
That’s my update for the week. I’ll see you next week!
I’d like to challenge you to come along for the ride. If you have a big goal you are hoping to accomplish by Jan of 2013, share it here along with your progress along the way.
| If you have EVER considered running a marathon, I have a short survey I would really appreciate you filling out. This can be completely anonymous. I’m doing a little market research to determine the interest level of a program I may consider putting together in the future. Take the survey here. Thank You! |

I am with you all the way! Only I’ll follow in the car. lol I don’t jog or run but I would like to take up walking to help with weight issues. But I keep coming up with excuses so …I guess when I want it bad enough I’ll do something about it. Congrats on all your hard work and keep us updated on your achievements.

Shawn, I don’t jog or run either. Hubby will go jogging sometimes and I would get winded after the first 100 ft! Yep, wasn’t a pretty picture. But yes, I decided I wanted it bad enough.
