My 1/2 Marathon Progress – Week 4

Today’s 1/2 Marathon Training Update

When I started my training 4 weeks ago: I was able to jog 1.6 miles as a walk/jog combo in approximately 25 minutes. I’m jogging in the desert with changes in elevation so a little different than jogging on a flat road.

# of Days this week: 2

# of Miles this week: 6

Average time: 47 min

Total # of Miles: 27

Challenges: This was a tougher week. It was the first day since starting my training that I missed a run. To be completely transparent, it was the week of my cycle which is always a challenging week to work out in any fashion due to headaches and such. I was grateful to get in what I did.

I switched to thinner socks and loosened my shoe laces a bit and the numbness I had been feeling in my feet went away. I switched my route so that the large hill is at the end and the calves weren’t hurting as bad.
Success:

  • No more ankle pain.
  • No more numb toes and feet.
  • In 4 weeks, I’ve only missed one run.
  • Now running no less than 2 miles for every run.

Plan for this week:

  • I have 2 two miles runs and a 3 mile run scheduled this week.
  • Keep up a steady pace.

That’s my update for the week. I’ll see you next week!

I’d like to challenge you to come along for the ride. If you have a big goal you are hoping to accomplish by Jan of 2013, share it here along with your progress along the way.

Good work so far! What race are you training for? I ran my first half and full marathons last year so your story sounds very familiar. I was surprised at how much support I received by blogging about the training process.

  2. I’ll be running my first 1/2 marathon on May 13th! Two weeks ago, I finally made it to 17 miles. Now I am confident that I can survive the 1/2 and have a lot of fun while doing it! It may even inspire me to run my very first marathon! I turn 42 in June so I feel it’s time to push my body to the limits and challenge the aging process. :-) LOL

That’s awesome! I’ll be 40 and one month when I run my first so can definitely relate to the age.
